WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES THE RESURRECTION MAKE?

How would my faith be affected if Jesus did not defeat death? If the resurrection makes no difference to my faith, then Easter would be nothing more than Reese cup eggs, bunnies, and egg hunts. It would be another general holiday championed by Hallmark and Wal-Mart. I would be no different from the person who follows Confucius or Gandhi. Jesus would be on the same lists as other such teachers and philosophers. Fortunately, the resurrection does matter. Jesus told us that he would give himself up to die a humiliating and terrible death for us, but he would rise again in three days. He did just that. When Joseph and Nicodemus laid Jesus in that tomb on Friday, they thought it was the end to another great Rabbi. However, when Sunday morning came, Jesus was not in the tomb because he had risen. This Rabbi is different. He did what he said he would do. Jesus conquered sin and death. He is truly divine.

Jesus showed his divinity by defeating death and bringing life to the world. We know that death is not the end, so we have hope through Christ. We have hope to keep living because we know that Jesus has the power to get us through anything and he holds true to his promises. This hope allows us to come together and celebrate the Creator of the Universe. Jesus is not dead; he is alive and leading us into the Kingdom of God.—Tad Craig

THANK YOU NOTE

It’s hard to leave 59 years living with you and worshipping with you, without a tearing up of emotions built up over those years. And so since a medical decision had to be made, we regretfully leave you and ever fondly think of you, and all the blessings that you’ve given us. So we say to you, thank you.—Perry & Bettie Wheless
